Traditional Norwegian wedding, "something old and something new"

The Stalheim Hotel was in a rare moment of calm, with no tour busses outside. The clatter of the helicopter brought us out the door. Hotel cameras were brought out into the parking lot. The copter touched down on the lawn beside the hotel, and out stepped two men and two women in full Voss bunads , complete with a top hat for the groom, and a gold glittery and embroidered head-dress for the bride. The bride was laughing and waving up at us in the parking lot, while the groom was much more conscious of the spinning blades overhead. The four of them stood to one side as the helicopter took off. The wind nearly lifted their hats and skirts right off! The bridal party had just flown from the wedding at the 11th-century church in Voss, at which they had arrived in a horse-drawn carriage, I understand. Talk about "something old and something new"! Lenny and Zoom Visit!

Lenny and Dave/Zoom were our neighbors in Puyallup. They finally decided to travel - to Norway - hooray! We were silly. We were bedazzled. We were exhausted. Best ten days! Stegastein Viewpoint The tour was organized by Nordic Visitor and our contact person was Sofia Sundkvist. Hats off to this woman's organizational skills! Poor Lenny and Zoom were stuck with a hapless tour guide - me. Most of the time, we weren't lost. Oslo to start. The new Munch Museum was fun! Besides rooms full of art, like a normal museum, there were scenes hidden inside pianos, and interactive chairs, where an invisible painter 'paints' you. Mice! In there! and yes, I did stand up after that... Vigeland Sculpture Park was fun. Lenny and Zoom caught that baby, thank heavens. Nordnes stroll

Today was sunny and warm, and of course I wandered around my neighborhood taking pictures. Of course you will believe that if you come to visit me, it will always be sunny and warm. I live on Nordnes peninsula here in the middle of Bergen, Norway, sister city of Seattle, Washington. Same rain, same water, same hiking. Same totem pole? Definitely worth the stroll, for you PNWers. A gift from Seattle to Bergen on the occasion of the 900 year jubilee in 1970 Outdoors is the place to be on a sunny day, or even a rainy day. The best views! The fresh air! Nordnes Sjøbad, outdoor heated swimming pool Norwegians encourage their children to climb as soon as they can walk Two women knitting in front of Fredriksberg fort and the young mother statue A sunny day fills all the benches with people facing the sun.
