Bryggen Tour - old Hanseatic League town

In wandering around town, I found this innovative fountain. The water runs down the little groove to the left.

This is a view of the mouth of the Bergen Harbor.
Saturday, we had a dozen people from work go on a guided tour of Bryggen. If you look up Bergen on the Internet, you are bound to see the picture of the tall wooden buildings lined up next to each other on the harbor. That's Bryggen.

Bergen was founded in the 1000's, and the German Hanseatic merchants had a major center here from the 1300s to the 1700s, when the league basically folded. The pictures are from that area. The stone buildings you see are from before the Hanseatic time, the wooden sculptures are from right now.

It was a beautiful day for weddings, and outdoor pictures of wedding parties.

Lastly, here's a picture of a floating bridge, Norway style. It floats a lot higher above the water than our Seattle-area floating bridges.
