7 Mountain Hike - retry!

Remember last year when I did the 4 mountain hike, except I only got one summit before falling down like Jill of Jack and Jill? I promised I'd get all 7 mountain summits one at a time, and post pictures. You must admit, I've posted enough from Floyen! But last Sunday was the 2009 7 Mountain Hike, and so Ed and I, Ron and Cindi did two-and-a-half mountains. We took the Floibanen to the top of Floyen and then started following the hike route. The next mountaintop is Rundemann, 560 meters above sea level. Ron had fun sharing ham radio call signs with the guy up there in front of that building.

Next summit was Sandviknesfjellet. Getting from Rundemann to Sandviknes was - shall we say - crazy. About the time we got to the top of Rundemann, the folks who RUN all the mountains were getting there (it's the 6th mountain of the 7). The trail from that point down to Sandviknes, at 416 meters, is all rocks and mud. These people leapt from rock to rock while their arms floated up and down like wings. We four clutched boulders and tentatively felt for the next step with our feet. Sometimes we would move off the trail if a particularly large group of runners came by, but generally they found their way around us. I don't know if they are born able to fly, or if their parents teach them!

This is the Sandviknes summit post for getting your card stamped.

We promised ourselves aspirin and beer when we got down off the mountains, and that sustained us. It was really great! Next year, all seven!

Meanwhile, back at the last post, we were getting ready for the exciting 100th anniversary of the Norwegian submarine fleet. You know the saying about watching the submarine races? Well, this was like that, but without the necking.
This is the Russian sub. The Russian sailors had fun shopping the whole weekend. There were only the 4 subs in the harbor and maybe, just maybe, one event involving a stage.

Ron and Cindi, thank you for the fabulous and fun visit to Seattle's sister city, Bergen. ;)

  2. You young whippersnapper you! Back in the olden days, when a guy asked a girl to go watch the submarine races, it was code for go sit in his car and make out. You can't actually watch submarines race, see, so what else you gonna do?
