May is just plain fun in Bergen

I tell you, this is the best month of the year. The sunlight lasts longer and everyone is happy. Tourists start coming back, and the ice cream stores open again.
There are people marching with drums besides the Buekorps Boys - like this group collecting for children that need aid.
The motorcycle gangs hang out and admire each others ... something!

Cherry trees and tulips are in bloom everywhere!

Pleasure boats are multiplying like rabbits.

The Russ are back! They are kids who will soon graduate from the equivalent of high school. They wear bib overalls that are each individually designed. They always wear the bibs and suspenders down around their knees. The bib usually as a flag, one leg has RUSS 2009, and the other has their name. They get "knots" for doing stunts, like these girls are. I think they are propositioning that kid! Their cardboard sign says "Are you single? We'll splice, you bite." Actually, that's probably NOT what it says ;). We played it safe and said no thanks. Today, Ed and his friend William were approached by two Russ dragging fish on leashes. They asked if Ed and William wanted to pet their fish. They weren't dead, just tired. The one with a pink leash was a girl, and the one with the blue leash was a boy. Ed and William declined. You see Russ camping in roundabouts, too. They have lots of loud fun, and the police make them clean up after they egg cars. Can you remember being that young? Ever get in trouble for making too much noise in your neighborhood? I did.

Umbrella repair? This may be the only umbrella repair store in the universe, but if any town needs it, it's Bergen. Ed's still threatening to gather statistics on umbrellas stuffed in garbage cans or simply abandoned. April showers bring May flowers, except they don't stop in May!
