Veten hike

While sitting in the canteen at lunchtime, we can look out the window at this mountain on the other side of the water. It calls us to the summit! It's called Veten. Ed went up it with his hiking friends earlier this summer and couldn't stop raving about the view from the summit. Last weekend, our hiking group went. Originally, we said no kids, since it is too difficult. But the next thing you know, we had more kids than on any hike so far! Plus, two moms carrying babies on their backs, one for the first time.
At the start of the hike, we're already pretty high. We parked near a farm.
We started in a very pretty forest, but soon got out above the trees. There were plenty of boggy places.

Marco Polo leading the way...

The summit! We sign the book, and have lunch. Wow, was it windy!

I made this extra large so you can see where I work. Look at the top of the red and white post, then just left. See the blue building? That's WesternGeco. At the bottom of the red and white post is Eko. Silje's brother borrows him from a neighbor for our hikes. See his ears blowing?

King of the Mountain!

All that hiking sure was tough!

Another bench for Ed to add to his collection, along the Trondheim Post Road.

Almost to the end of the hike, the farm with Norwegian ponies (fjording). Naturally, we had to give them some grass. I'm sure they'd starve otherwise.

The rain held off till we were off the mountain. Hooray!

  1. What's the Knut Hamsun book? About the guy who walked and walked till he found a good place on the side of a mountain, with a stream? And there's Kristin Lavransdatter. Isn't that Norwegian? Or was she Swedish? And there's a book on Norwegian sweater techniques sitting on the table waiting for me to read....

  2. I hadn't hear of Knut Hamsun, but Wikipedia shows an interesting man. He's Norwegian, and won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1920.
Norwegian sweater techniques, huh? One of the projects I bought (yarn + pattern) is for a Norwegian sweater, but not as intricate as most. I'll be sure to post pictures if and when I finish it!
