Good company brings spring weather

Do you like our kimonos? Our friend Shoko sent them to us when Ed was first diagnosed, and this weekend, she visited us in Bergen. She brought the obi, the blue belt on mine, and showed me how to wear the kimono. Left closes over right - I wonder what signal I was sending when I closed it right over left? Also, make sure the back of the neck doesn't hang down, unless you are "available". Tying the bow on the belt is done just so as well. It was so wonderful of Shoko to give them to us. Ed wears his every day.

Shoko brought good weather. Friday afternoon I took her all over town, and Saturday we went up on Floyen. The sun shone, the snow melted off the firs, the ice layer on top of the snow crunched underfoot, and a busload of tourists oohed and aahed over the view. What more can you ask as proof that spring will come?

Friday night Shoko and I went to the symphony playing Bruckner's 9th in Grieg Hall, and Saturday evening we took her to dinner at Wesselstuen. This restaurant has an interesting ambience, with traditional Norwegian food at not-outrageous prices. The waitress took good care of us.

Ed's learning to conserve his energy. He picks one event to aim for and rests up for it. This dinner was it, and it went well. It helped that the taxi stand was right outside the door! The other day, when Ingrid and Ed and I bought his sandals, we took a picture that I have just uploaded. Here are our two street muggers. If anyone gets in their way, they have the weapons to knock them down. Ingrid, at least, is showing the appropriate attitude!

Next week we should get a different kind of visit - from the home health care nurses and the Sunniva consultant. We are eligible for aids to help Ed get around in the house better. For example, the walker is provided by the official health care system. Hopefully, they'll give us valuable tips, plus check in on Ed while I'm at work. The doctor says that our US trip next month is still a go, even though the tumors are popping up in more bones. We look forward to seeing "old" friends and visiting family.

  1. The kimono is beautiful. Scary - Ed with those wheels - don't cross the street in front of him! Russ would want to add a turbocharger I'm sure.

  4. Hi Jessica, we are looking forward to getting your e-mail. Ed would love to talk with you.
He now has his wheelchair, which is great for around the house and we can even use it out on the street, but it's tough pushing it uphill!
