A visit to southernmost Norway

Vadim, the boy Ed tutored in English, and his family have moved to the very south of Norway. This weekend they put me up at their new home, which is under renovation. It was so nice to see them again!

I flew into Kristiansand, then took the bus for an hour plus to Fevik, their town. Natasha picked me up and we had homemade pizza. Roger is very good at cooking, as he proved all weekend, with reindeer stew and meatballs the other two nights. He liked to say we were having "Alt for Norge" dinners.

Each morning, we went for walks. Saturday was down to the ocean.

Sunday was into the forest to a small lake.

Saturday afternoon, Vadim and I explored Grimstad, then we all watched soccer.

Sunday afternoon there was cross-country relay skiing to watch. The US men came in about 8th or 9th. Roger and Natasha were rooting for Norway and Russia, respectively, and it was getting pretty hot for a while! Norway won. No surprise there. The championships had 4 Norwegian teams and 2 Russian teams. Petter Northug, the Norwegian superstar, is absolutely unbeatable when he turns on the afterburners for the last few hundred meters!

It was a lovely, relaxing weekend. Thanks, Roger, Natasha, and Vadim (and Maria!).
