Hooray for the 17th of May in Bergen!

I LOVE the 17th of May in Bergen! Everyone is wearing their bunads. There are two simultaneous parades going opposite directions on the same street. The Buekorps boys are drumming. The gymnastic kids with thick gloves cartwheel down the cobblestones. The cycling club rides a draisine, a penny-farthing, a tandem, a 4-person tandem, and normal bikes. The dance clubs rock, or tap, or whatever style they like. The schools walk by in age order. The police band leads one parade, while the firemen's band leads the other. There were fencers, motocross riders, dentists with giant toothbrushes, law students with white wigs, and even the missionaries from the church on the ground floor of my building got into it with lively music.

Men have the coolest bunads. Even the baby is wearing a bunad.

Waiting for the parade. A little rain never melted anyone!

Patriotic to the max, right?
This year, to celebrate their 100th year, there were lots of Scouts. They had fun - including roasting hotdogs in a wheelbarrow and giving them out!
A Scout at the top of a teepee thing. Patches on stocking cap?

A couple of Scouts getting off easy.
After the parade, I went over to friends' apartment, where we watched the 17th of May all over Europe and even Australia on TV. Liv cooked some traditional rømmegrøt with cured meat. I really like rømmegrøt, so thank you Liv and William!

Did anyone in other countries see any Norwegians parading around today?
