May celebrations

May is the best month of the year here in Bergen. The days get longer, there are three holidays, and the tourists arrive. Everyone's celebrating. The current big event is Festspillene, which I've written about before. The second biggest event, NattJazz is happening now. That's Night Jazz for you Americans. It is really hopping. This year, they are simultaneously and in the same place constructing wood art. Here are some random cell-phone pics I just took.
There are food booths over that way, and music all over the place.

Looking through a music booth at a cafe and pedestrian street.

Same booth, showing some wood art

Wood art invaded by a giant spider!

This is about 9 pm and the sun hasn't set yet.

Here's a video of Festspillene which shows all the styles and venues. You should check it out!

We celebrated a week of sunshine and good hard work at work today - ice cream cones for everyone!

Earlier in the week, a bunch of us went to eat, drink and be merry in the evening sunshine at USF Verftet. Any of you who have visited here in the summer - yes, we took you there! It's that former sardine factory that overlooks the big harbor on the west side of Nordnes peninsula. Those that haven't come to visit in the summer - come! I'll take you there!

The Geco Chicks got together last weekend for the heck of it. We named ourselves last year for Jentegangen, the Girls' Hike. Janne called for a get-together and Silje chased out her family so we could be at her place.

This weekend is Pentecost, a three day weekend. We are starting it with a hike tomorrow. Supposed to stay sunny!
